ReShark: an international collective with one mission: to reintroduce endangered sharks to the wild.
ReShark is a collective of over 90 conservation organisations, aquariums and government agencies whose mission is to reintroduce endangered sharks to the wild.
The first iteration of this is the StAR Project and is focused on reintroducing Indo Pacific Leopard sharks (Stegostoma tigrinum - also known as Zebra sharks in some regions) to Raja Ampat.
Raja Ampat was chosen due to its extensive Marine Protected Area network and there are two nursery locations, one of which is at Misool Resort.
Misool Foundation’s long-established Ranger Patrol will ensure that the sharks have the best chance at survival in our protected waters.
why is reshark important
Leopard sharks are listed as endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. In Raja Ampat, Leopard sharks have been largely extirpated by intensive shark finning and are now functionally extinct.
Without ReShark, Leopard sharks will not return to Raja Ampat in our lifetime.
